Post-Publication Discussion Policy

The Jurnal Kajian dan Pengembangan Umat, published by the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Barat, recognizes the importance of post-publication discussion in promoting scholarly dialogue, critical evaluation, and the continuous development of academic knowledge.

The journal welcomes constructive feedback, scholarly comments, and evidence-based discussions concerning articles published in the journal. Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for researchers and readers to clarify findings, identify limitations, offer alternative interpretations, and contribute to further academic inquiry.

1. Submission of Comments and Discussions

Readers and researchers may submit comments or scholarly responses concerning previously published articles. Submissions should be relevant to the journal's focus and scope and should provide a clear academic contribution.

Comments and discussions should:

  • · Identify the published article being discussed.
  • · Present a clear, evidence-based argument.
  • · Use appropriate scholarly references where relevant.
  • · Maintain a respectful and professional tone.
  • · Avoid personal attacks, defamatory statements, discriminatory language, or unsupported allegations.
  • · Disclose any relevant conflicts of interest.

2. Editorial Assessment

All post-publication comments and responses are subject to editorial assessment. The editor will determine whether a submission is relevant, academically sound, and suitable for publication.

Where necessary, the journal may seek an independent review or invite the original article's authors to provide a response. The editorial team will manage the process fairly and impartially.

Acceptance of a comment or response is not automatic and depends on its scholarly merit, relevance, and compliance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

3. Authors' Right to Respond

Authors whose articles are discussed or criticized will normally be given an opportunity to respond to substantive scholarly concerns.

Responses should address the issues raised directly, provide supporting evidence where appropriate, and maintain a professional academic tone. The journal may publish the original comment and the author's response together or separately, depending on editorial judgment and publication arrangements.

4. Corrections and Research Integrity Concerns

Post-publication discussion is distinct from the formal correction or retraction process. If a comment identifies a potential factual error, ethical concern, or suspected research misconduct, the journal will assess the matter under its relevant editorial and publication ethics policies.

Depending on the findings, the journal may publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, where appropriate.

5. Ethical Standards

All participants in post-publication discussion must respect academic integrity, confidentiality where applicable, and the rights of authors and readers. The journal does not accept comments intended primarily to harass, defame, or unfairly discredit individuals.

The editorial board reserves the right to decline or request revisions to submissions that do not meet the journal's academic and ethical standards.

6. Access and Transparency

Where post-publication comments and responses are accepted, the journal aims to make them accessible to readers and to maintain a clear connection between the discussion and the article concerned.

The journal is committed to supporting open scholarly communication, constructive criticism, and the responsible correction of the scholarly record in accordance with recognized publication ethics guidance, including relevant resources from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
