Corrections and Retractions Policy

The Jurnal Kajian dan Pengembangan Umat, published by the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Barat, is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors or concerns may occasionally arise after an article has been published and is committed to addressing them responsibly and promptly.

1. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article that affects the accuracy, clarity, or completeness of the publication but does not invalidate its principal findings or conclusions.

Corrections may include, but are not limited to:

  • · Errors in author names, affiliations, or acknowledgments.
  • · Typographical or factual errors that could mislead readers.
  • · Errors in tables, figures, references, or other published information.
  • · Other inaccuracies that require formal clarification of the published record.

Requests for corrections may be submitted by authors, readers, editors, or other relevant parties. The editorial board will assess the nature and significance of the reported error and determine whether a formal correction is necessary.

Approved corrections will be published transparently and linked to the original article whenever technically possible.

2. Retractions

A retraction may be issued when substantial concerns undermine the reliability, integrity, or ethical acceptability of a published article.

Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:

  • · Confirmed fabrication or falsification of research data.
  • · Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of others' work.
  • · Serious errors that invalidate the main findings or conclusions.
  • · Unethical research practices or serious violations of research ethics.
  • · Duplicate or redundant publication that significantly compromises the scholarly record.
  • · Proven manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.
  • · Other serious forms of publication misconduct that warrant retraction.

Retraction decisions will be based on an assessment of the available evidence and the seriousness of the concerns. Authors will normally be given an opportunity to respond, although the journal may proceed when necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

3. Retraction Procedure

When a potential reason for retraction is identified, the editorial board will:

1. Review the concern and relevant supporting evidence.

2. Contact the authors for an explanation where appropriate.

3. Consult independent experts or the author's affiliated institution when necessary.

4. Assess the evidence impartially and determine the appropriate action.

5. Communicate the decision to the relevant parties.

The journal may publish a retraction notice explaining the reason for retraction in clear and factual terms. The notice will be linked to the original article, and the original article will generally remain accessible with a clear retraction statement to preserve the transparency of the scholarly record.

4. Expressions of Concern

If credible concerns arise but the investigation is incomplete or a definitive decision cannot yet be reached, the journal may publish an expression of concern.

An expression of concern informs readers that an issue affecting the reliability or integrity of an article is under examination. It may be updated or replaced by a correction or retraction when further evidence becomes available.

5. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are encouraged to notify the editorial office promptly if they discover a significant error or ethical concern in their published work.

Authors should cooperate with the editorial board's assessment and provide relevant information or documentation when reasonably requested. Requests for correction or retraction will be evaluated independently by the journal.

6. Editorial Independence and Transparency

Decisions regarding corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions will be made objectively, based on evidence and the need to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

The journal will not remove or alter a published article solely because its findings are controversial, unfavorable, or inconsistent with prevailing views. Corrective action must be justified by the nature and seriousness of the identified issue.

7. Publication Ethics Framework

The journal handles corrections and retractions in accordance with its publication ethics policies and recognized guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including relevant guidance on retractions and the responsible correction of the scholarly record.

The journal is committed to ensuring that published research remains transparent, reliable, and accountable to the academic community.
