Ruhama: Islamic Education Journal recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools may support academic writing and research when used responsibly. However, the use of AI must not compromise research integrity, originality, transparency, or the reliability of scholarly work.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools for purposes such as language editing, grammar correction, translation assistance, and improving the clarity of writing. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts, including all content generated or modified with AI assistance.
AI tools must not be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or respond to questions concerning its integrity.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools when such tools contribute to the generation or substantive revision of manuscript content, including text, analysis, images, or other research materials.
The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and explain its purpose. Routine spelling, grammar, and reference-formatting assistance does not ordinarily require disclosure unless it involves substantive content generation or the journal specifically requests it.
The disclosure should be included in an appropriate section of the manuscript, such as an AI Use Declaration or Acknowledgments section.
3. Prohibited Uses
AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, generate misleading research results, create false references, conceal plagiarism, or misrepresent the originality of a manuscript.
Authors must verify all AI-generated information, citations, translations, and interpretations before submission. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript complies with research ethics, copyright requirements, and applicable data-protection obligations.
4. AI Use in Peer Review and Editorial Decisions
Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished research data, or identifying information to public AI tools or other services that could compromise confidentiality without appropriate authorization and safeguards.
AI tools must not replace independent scholarly judgment in peer review or editorial decision-making. Editors and reviewers remain responsible for the assessments, recommendations, and decisions they make.
5. Editorial Assessment
The journal may request clarification regarding the use of AI when necessary to assess the originality, accuracy, or integrity of a submission. Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use will be evaluated according to the circumstances and may result in a request for revision, rejection, or further action under the journal's publication ethics policies.
6. Responsibility and Accountability
Authors retain full responsibility for their submitted and published work, regardless of whether AI tools have been used. The journal is committed to promoting transparent, ethical, and responsible use of AI in scholarly publishing.
This policy may be updated as AI technologies and recognized publication ethics standards evolve.
