Problems related to work stress among nurses at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang include the large/increasing number of patients not matched by an adequate number of nurses, the shortage of professional staff at the hospital, the lack of learning allowances for high-performing nurses, the large number of nurses on leave, which increases the workload, and conflicts between nurses. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of workload and the work environment on work stress among nurses at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang. This study is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The study will be conducted at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang, in December 2025. The population in this study is all civil servant nurses working at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang, with 57 nurses and a sample size of 57 individuals. The analysis method used was multiple linear regression analysis.The results found: (1) workload has a partial positive and significant effect on work stress among nurses at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang. (2) The work environment partially has a positive and significant effect on nurses' work stress at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang. (3) Workload and work environment have a positive and significant effect on nurses' work stress at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang. The coefficient of determination for nurses' work stress at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang, is indicated by an Adjusted R Square value of 0.238. This means that the contribution of workload and work environment to nurses' work stress at Prof. Dr. HB Saanin Mental Hospital, Padang, is 23.8%, while the remainder is influenced by other variables.
