EFEK MENGUNYAH PERMEN KARET (CHEWING GUM) TERHADAP PEMULIHAN ILEUS PASCA OPERASI KANKER KOLOREKTAL

Pendahuluan: Kanker kolorektal adalah jenis kanker yang tumbuh pada usus besar dan rektum. Kanker kolorektal awalnya tumbuh dari polip menahun lalu berkembang menjadi ganas. Salah satu pengobatan kanker kolorektal yaitu dengan pembedahan. Komplikasi yang ditimbulkan setelah  pembedahan adalah ileus.  Ileus pasca operasi merupakan masalah utama dan sementara pada pasien yang menjalani operasi abdomen. Ileus pasca operasi umumnya terjadi pada 25% pasien yang menjalani operasi perut. Tanda gejala ileus pascaoperasi antara lain distensi abdomen, mual, muntah, ketidakmampuan untuk diet oral baik makan maupun minum, tidak adanya flatus, dan perubahan defekasi (motilitas gastrointestinal). Karena adanya ileus pasien berisiko tinggi mengalami komplikasi, biaya pengobatan yang mahal, perawatan yang lama, dan pemberian diet yang terhambat. Tujuan: Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui waktu flatus dan defekasi post operasi kanker kolorektal setelah dilakukan intervensi mengunyah permen karet (chewing gum). Metode: Metode penelitian ini menggunakan keperawatan berbasis bukti atau evidence based nursing (EBN), yaitu  pendekatan praktik keperawatan yang mengintegrasikan bukti ilmiah terbaik.  Hasil: Mengunyah permen karet (chewing gum) dapat dilakukan dengan mudah, aman dan ekonomis untuk membantu mengatasi post operative ileus dalam mempercepat waktu flatus dan defekasi sehingga dapat meningkatkan kesehatan.
